Urbio has been selected as one of the top three finalists in the Buildings & Construction category of the Start Up Energy Transition (SET) Award 2025 and has been included in the prestigious SET100 List 2025, which recognizes the world’s most promising energy and climate tech start-ups.

The SET100 List is curated by the German Energy Agency (dena) in cooperation with the World Energy Council, with the support of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action. Each year, it highlights the most impactful start-ups accelerating the global energy transition. For the 2025 edition, more than 350 start-ups from 68 countries applied, with only 100 selected worldwide.
Awarded for Accelerating the Decarbonization of Buildings
Urbio was shortlisted as a finalist in the Buildings & Construction category alongside Concular and PIONIERKRAFT, recognizing solutions that are transforming how buildings are planned, renovated, and powered with clean energy.
The ranking was compiled by renowned energy experts from the World Energy Council, dena, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, TUM Venture Labs, InnoEnergy, PwC, Bay Wa r.e., Vireo Ventures, World Fund and more.
Recognized as Best District Heating Planning Software
According to the international SET jury, Urbio’s patent-pending generative design software stands out for its ability to automate the design of district heating networks at large scale, reducing design time by a factor of ten, and contributing to overcoming the shortage of skilled workers in the energy transition. By consolidating fragmented energy data into a single, actionable workflow, Urbio enables energy providers, engineering firms, and consultants to deploy efficient, customized district energy projects at scale.
Urbio Took the Stage in Berlin
As part of the SET Award final, Sébastien Cajot, CEO and Co-founder of Urbio, took the stage on March 18, 2025, in Berlin at the SET Tech Festival which brings together start-ups, utilities, investors, policymakers, and industrial leaders from across the global energy ecosystem to explore the technologies shaping the future of energy. He presented how Urbio’s generative design technology is accelerating the deployment of profitable and carbon-free district heating networks, a critical lever for decarbonizing urban energy systems.
Part of a Global Network of Energy Innovators
Over the past nine years, the SET Award has attracted more than 3,900 applications from over 100 countries, establishing itself as one of the most important international platforms for clean energy innovation. Finalists and SET100 companies benefit from strong visibility, industry connections, and access to strategic partnerships that support long-term scaling.
Being named both a SET Award finalist and a SET100 company places Urbio among a global community of innovators tackling the most pressing challenges of the energy transition—from clean power generation and storage to sustainable mobility and industrial decarbonization.
